Message from the Hosting Minister

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the first-ever PNG–China Business Forum & Trade Expo 2027 in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China. This historic event celebrates over 50 years of strong diplomatic, trade, and investment relations between Papua New Guinea and China, and marks the beginning of a new era of economic cooperation.

The Marape–Rosso Government has made the strategic decision to host this Forum in China to showcase Papua New Guinea’s immense investment potential to one of the world’s largest economies. By taking this initiative directly to Chinese investors and businesses, we aim to build stronger partnerships and attract high-quality investments that will transform our nation’s economy.

This Forum will bring together thousands of Chinese investors, business leaders, and Papua New Guinean companies to explore opportunities in downstream processing, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, eco-tourism, and hospitality. These sectors are central to our vision of creating jobs, growing local industries, and increasing foreign direct investment.

The next fifty years must be different from the last. Papua New Guinea is committed to moving beyond exporting raw materials and focusing on processing and adding value to our resources within the country. This is the pathway to industrialisation, sustainable economic growth, and long-term prosperity for our people.
